Wednesday, 19 February - Storytelling and Clay Workshop

12:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Clay workshop with local artist Nic Stead

A chance for children to make a clay piece and take home this half term in our Wednesday

Workshop. We are lucky to have Nic Stead who is well known in Whitby for her wonderful pottery and

fabulous workshops. The quality clay is air-dry, which can be painted when dry, and you can show the results by hash tagging us with your finished results #cookmuseumwhitby.


Choose an hour-long session on our website from 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, or 3:00 PM (Limited spaces).

Thursday, 6 March - 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM - "Voyaging into the Ice" - Lecture by Dennis Buck, Museum Volunteer

A look at the intrepid sailors of Whitby, including Cook and Scoresby; but also, others less

well known, who have journeyed to the Arctic waters on voyages of exploration, scientific

experimentation, and commercial discovery.

Saturday, 15 March - Artist in Residence 2025 Claudia Quayle


10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Art Demonstration

You are invited to talk with Claudia whilst she works on her watercolours exploring the

theme of Sydney Parkinson's Florilegium as seen in our Artists room. Whilst focussing on

medicinal plants in New Zealand, working with chief Tāme Wairere Iti of the Ngāi Tūhoe

iwi(tribe), Claudia will then compare these plants to their herbal and medicinal counterparts

found in the Dilston Physic Garden in the North of England.

A chance to practise watercolour of your own with some expert tuition from Claudia. Classes

held in the Endeavour room – numbers are kept small for quality learning experience and all

materials are included in the price of £15.00.

Saturday, March 29 - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM - Embroidery demonstration by Alison Larkin

Have you ever thought you might like to try embroidery? Come along to the Captain Cook Museum and see Alison Larkin at work, embroiderer, author, and teacher. Specializing in historical embroidery in full-size and miniature, and 18th-century costume; you can watch

her work on her current design in the Blue Room. If you would like to try your own

embroidery with tuition, Alison will be holding a class this Monday 31 st March. An ideal

Mother’s Day gift for the creative mums out there.
